Expanding Horizons: BRICS Alliance Receives Applications from 20 New Countries
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In a recent development, a growing number of countries, currently approaching 20, have expressed their interest in joining the BRICS alliance, according to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov.
Ryabkov emphasized the increasing significance of BRICS on the global stage, as it gathers countries with similar positions. “The list of candidates seeking to join this association is continually expanding, underscoring BRICS’ growing role in the international arena,” he conveyed to TASS on Thursday.
Unlike traditional leader-follower dynamics, BRICS operates on a cooperative principle, enabling partners to collaboratively shape a constructive agenda based on consensus. Regarding the criteria for joining BRICS, discussions are ongoing, with South Africa taking an active role in this process, Ryabkov noted.
“We have observed a clear desire from the Arab world and the Asia-Pacific region to become part of BRICS, as they are currently not represented in the alliance. However, the final decision on accepting new members will be made by the leaders during the upcoming summit in Johannesburg,” concluded the senior Russian diplomat.

Hope Ghana’s Application is part
Thank you for your comment! While the article focuses on the BRICS alliance and its expanding horizons, it does not specifically mention Ghana's application. However, it's always interesting to consider the potential involvement of different countries in such alliances. Ghana's participation could bring unique perspectives and contributions to the BRICS group. If there are any updates or developments regarding Ghana's application or its involvement in regional alliances, I'll make sure to cover them in future articles. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
