ECOWAS issued a stern seven-day ultimatum to Niger Republic’s military, demanding the restoration of ousted President Muhammed Bazoum to office. During this period, all border crossings between Niger and ECOWAS member states will remain closed.

The situation escalated when General Abdourahamane Tchiani, the commander of Niger’s presidential guard, declared himself the head of a transitional government after President Mohamed Bazoum was taken into custody.
